Naturally Lower Cholesterol with Arginine

Cholesterol is an organic chemical substance classified as a waxy steroid of fat. This vital structural component of mammalian cell membrane is required to establish proper fluidity and membrane permeability. Cholesterol is necessary because it builds and maintains membranes. It controls membrane fluidity over a range of physical temperatures. Inside of the cell membrane, cholesterol also serves in the intracellular transport of nerve conditions and cell signaling.

Many people think that there cholesterol levels are ok because of the last time they had their cholesterol levels checked. Artery- clogging rises with age and heart doctors suggest that adults should be screened for high cholesterol at least once every five years. If you are someone of high risk for heart disease, then you want to be screened more often.

Medications such as niacin, fibrates, and bile acid resins are cholesterol lowing drugs that can work fast for people with high cholesterol.  The downside of these medications is that they can become costly, and have unpleasant Sid effect. The truth is that there is alternative natural way to reduce cholesterol and it starts with lifestyle modifications.

Staying active 

Staying active can rise HDL or “good” cholesterol by up to 10%. It also lowers the LDL which is “bad” cholesterol. Even moderate exercise such as stretching and walking will help bring cholesterol levels down. It you exercise for 30minuts to an hour a day for 5 times a week, you will have a greater percentage increase in ‘‘good” cholesterol. Staying active will help you get in shape, lose weight and help naturally lower cholesterol levels.

Eat right

Fruits and vegetables including whole grain are good sources of fiber which has been found to naturally lower cholesterol. Foods that are high in fiber can help lower cholesterol because the fiber acts as a sponge in the digestive track and absorb cholesterol. Other sources of fiber include potassium, beans, oats, barley, and food containing psyllium. Regular consumption of walnuts and almonds will bring modest reductions in cholesterol levels. Eating fish 3 times a week also help lower cholesterol as it contains omega -3s.

Kicking bad habits

If you want to naturally lower cholesterol you want to stop smoking. Smoking lowers the “good “cholesterol and is a major heart disease risk factor.  On the flip side the consumption of alcohol can elevated “good” cholesterol by up to 10%. Even though alcohol may improve you “good” cholesterols, increase in alcohol intake is not recommended by the American Heart Association due to the risk of excessive drinking including the urge to smoke.

Fish oil supplements can have high effect on cholesterol and other triglycerides. These fish oil supplement are chockablock with omega-3 fatty acids that help to naturally lower cholesterol.
